Rat bait found in CBD, Strand

Townsville City Council is asking the community for help in identifying those responsible for leaving rat bait pellets around the central business district and on The Strand.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the practice was dangerous and needed to stop.

"In recent weeks, Council staff and contractors have reported finding rat bait in various locations around the CBD and on The Strand," Cr Hill said.

"The pellets are being cleaned up as soon as they are found, however more are found in the same locations within days.

"This is very concerning. Rat bait is highly lethal for dogs, even in very small amounts.

"I strongly urge those responsible to stop this dangerous practice immediately.

"Alternatively, anyone with information about who is putting these pellets around our community should contact Council at 134 810."

Cr Hill said if members of the public had genuine concerns about rodents, they should contact Council who can take appropriate and safe action.
