Victorian ratepayers continue to pay the price for the Allan Labor Government's mismanagement as the latest rate capping announcement fails to address ongoing state government cost shifting and tax hikes.
Yesterday, the Allan Labor Government announced a rate cap of 2.75 per cent for the 2026-27 financial year.
Shadow Minister for Local Government, Bev McArthur, said: "Rate capping is an important protection for ratepayers and should drive discipline and reduce waste, not serve as cover for continued cost-shifting onto local councils.
"Unfunded state mandates undermine rate capping and make local government financially unsustainable.
"Protecting ratepayers means more than setting a cap - it requires the government to establish appropriate funding arrangements for shared services and to stop imposing more and larger taxes and levies on Victorian taxpayers."
