Rebuilding Work Kicks Off On Wimmera Highway

  • Minister for Roads

The Andrews Labor Government is strengthening a key section of the Wimmera Highway near Natimuk as part of its investment in rebuilding, repairing and resurfacing regional roads.

Minister for Roads, Road Safety and the TAC Jaala Pulford said works to rebuild a two-kilometre stretch of the highway west of Natimuk will ensure it can continue to function as an important link for freight and travel.

The $1.16 million project will remove the existing road surface and replace it with a newer, smoother and safer surface, delivering a more reliable journey for thousands of drivers each day.

The Wimmera Highway links local grain and livestock producers with important domestic and international trade markets, as well as connecting local communities with the region hub of Horsham and providing access to the renowned Mt Arapiles-Tooan State Park.

Works are expected to take a month to complete, weather permitting.

A further 2.9 kilometres of the Wimmera Highway near Murtoa and Rupanyup are set to undergo rehabilitation works in the coming months.

Around 378 kilometres of roads across western Victoria are being rebuilt, repaired and resurfaced as part of the Labor Government’s regional road maintenance blitz.

As stated by Minister for Roads and Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford

“We know how important smoother and safer roads are for rural Victorians – not just to ensure that farmers and freight operators can access trade opportunities, but also to keep local communities connected.”

“That’s why we’re strengthening this stretch of the Wimmera Highway as part of our massive regional roads maintenance blitz, which is rebuilding and resurfacing thousands of kilometres of road right across Victoria.”
