Reckless Labor flip flops on NWTD project

Members,

The Opposition Energy Spokesman Dean Winter has today shown he is either incompetent or reckless. Or both.

In calling for the North-West Transmission Development, "to be built in its entirety without delay" Mr Winter is thumbing his nose at proper planning process.

Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said Labor seems to want to tear up the need for preparation of a business plan, ignore regulatory approvals and land acquisition procedures.

"The North-West Transmission Development is a massive project which will require significant investment," Minister Duigan said.

"The Opposition continues to show they stand for nothing, repeatedly flip-flopping and being wishy washy on major policy issues.

"In September they were very keen to ensure Tasmanians were protected from the cost of the North-West Transmission Development claiming it would drive up power bills.

"Now they want it built in its entirety without delay.

"Labor can't have it both ways.

"The Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to do the work needed to ensure the progress of this important project.

"And we will continue to work closely with proponents of new generation projects to ensure their transmission needs are met.

"Unlike Labor, we will focus on delivering the infrastructure assets Tasmania needs to ensure the ongoing supply of affordable renewable energy," Minister Duigan said.
