Recycle Rewards Facility Launches

Recycle Rewards, Tasmania's container refund scheme, is continuing to flourish with a new facility now open in the state's north.

Cleanaway has established a new $5-million Launceston Container Sorting Facility in St Leonards, providing additional infrastructure to support the scheme.

Minister for Environment Madeleine Ogilvie said this new facility was a significant addition to the already successful scheme.

"Cleanaway's investment in this new facility will enable millions of returned containers to be processed and sorted, helping to make a difference in our state's circular economy," Minister Ogilvie said.

"The Tasmanian Government is delivering for Tasmanians through this successful scheme, proving that smart policy, strong partnerships, and community action can deliver real results.

"More than 100 million containers have been returned through the scheme, which has been a smashing success, since it began in May last year.

"This initiative is central to our Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy, and keeps litter out of our environment, increases recycling, and reduces landfill.

"With Recycle Rewards, Tasmanians now have a simple, practical way to be part of the solution.

"Every container returned not only helps cut container litter in half, but also supports creation of new jobs, local business opportunities, and stronger communities.

"I commend Cleanaway and its partners for helping Tasmanians turn everyday actions into lasting environmental benefits."
