Redback spider bites man where it hurts most - his penis

The 21-year-old had been using a portaloo outside a home when he felt a sudden sharp pain engulf his manhood which began swelling.

Although paramedics were initially called to the scene in Kogarah, Sydney's south, the man managed to make his own way to St George Hospital where he was admitted in a stable condition at about 8.45am .

The victim was able to get himself to the mercifully-close emergency room for treatment, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Although its fangs are loaded with deadly venom, the notorious redback spider rarely causes death, with anti-venom having been available for more than 50 years.

"But you’d experience pain — pain as the venom stimulates the nerves around the bite — along with swelling and increased blood pressure," Associate Professor Julian White, from Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital, told The Telegraph.

"But certainly, that would make you very miserable."

Despite redback deaths being uncommon, the spider tragically claimed the life of 22-year-old northern Sydney man Jayden Burleigh earlier this month.
