A new campaign challenging social norms, attitudes and behaviours to help promote a respectful and gender-equal community was launched in Wagga Wagga this week.

Wagga Wagga City Council and the Wagga Women's Health Centre are working together on primary prevention of domestic and family violence through the DVproject:2650 and today launched the Reflect Respect campaign aimed at eliminating violence against women and their children.

Reflect Respect – A modern day guide for gentlemen was initially launched in 2018 by Wodonga Council and the Wodonga Family Violence Taskforce to address the rates of domestic violence and increase support for gender equality within the Wodonga community.

Due to the success of the initial campaign, the DVproject:2650 has partnered with Wodonga Council to build on the existing campaign, which saw the release of a second edition guide specific to the Wagga Wagga community.

"This is a wonderful example of the collaboration and active working relationship between the two organisations, and two states, that will benefit both communities," Director Community of the City of Wagga Wagga Janice Summerhayes said.

"We all have a role to play in upholding respectful relationships at home, in the workplace and other social settings to increase support for gender equality.

"To support this campaign, we urge you to start a conversation with your team, staff, family members and friends about the importance of respectful relationships and share the messages of this campaign."

Reflect Respect is focused on challenging social norms, attitudes and behaviours to help promote respectful relationships at home, in the workplace and other social settings to increase support for gender equality and subsequently eliminate violence against women and their children.

Targeting pubs, clubs, hotels, sporting clubs, educational institutions and organisations, it is hoped the campaign will reach as many community members as possible.

The campaign will include a number of ways to increase awareness in the community, including posters, social media and television and radio ads.
