Region-wide event to celebrate our seniors

Seniors from Tamworth, Manilla, Barraba and Nundle have today been honoured at the Tamworth Regional Seniors Awards, held at Tamworth Community Centre.

This is an annual awards event that celebrates the achievements of seniors and groups from across the Tamworth region.

Tamworth Region Deputy Mayor Phil Betts said, “The role that seniors play in our community is very important, whether it be actively participating in local groups, or advocating on behalf of elderly people.”

He said this ceremony was a powerful way to properly acknowledge our seniors.

The winners of the 2020 Tamworth Regional Seniors Awards are:

• Nundle Senior of the Year – Maria Velt Kamp

• Barraba Senior of the Year – Robert Richardson

• Barraba Community Group of the Year – GoCo Community Transport/GoCo Meals on Wheels

• Manilla Senior of the Year – Karel Saints

• Tamworth Senior of the Year – John Wallace/Suzanne Turnor

• Tamworth Community Group of the Year – Kable Avenue Indoor Bowls

Cr Betts said, “I was pleased to see a number of older residents make the trip to Tamworth to celebrate each others achievements, and have a chat after over morning tea.”

“On behalf of our community – we would like to say thanks,” he said. “You all make our region a friendlier and more caring place to live.”
