What is being done to help us adapt to climate change on the north coast of NSW?
Byron Shire Council is hosting a NSW Government information session called NSW Adapt in the Council Chambers at Mullumbimby, on Wednesday 16 October from 5.30pm -7pm – and everyone is invited.
Come along and hear from two climate change experts, Stephen Bygrave and Malcolm Robertson from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) as they explore the NSW Climate Resilience and Net Zero Emissions programs, and the recently released North Coast Enabling Regional Adaptation Report.
"Anyone who wants to be informed about climate change and what is being done at a State Government level to address issues specific to the north coast area will find this information session of benefit," Mayor Simon Richardson said.
"It is a terrific opportunity for us to hear directly from the Department about the outcomes of its work over the last five years and the major finding of the new report – and what all this means for the north coast and Byron Shire," he said.
Background
In 2014 the North Coast's vulnerability to climate change was examined in the North Coast Integrated Regional Vulnerability Assessment (IRVA).
Over six months a series of seven workshops were held covering the human services, landscapes and ecosystems, industries, settlements and infrastructure, and emergency management sectors.
During the process more than 100 regional administrators and local representatives worked together to understand the vulnerability of the region to the forecast effects of climate change.
