Regional roads crumble due to Labor's incompetence

Victorian's decaying roads network will deteriorate further after the Labor Government slashed another 25 per cent from the road maintenance budget.

It is an alarming trend, with Labor punishing Victorians with a $380 million reduction in annual spending on road maintenance since 2020 – a massive 45 per cent cut.

Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Danny O'Brien, said Victorians know their roads are appalling and Labor's cuts will make it worse.

"Whether its potholes on freeways, broken rims and crumbling shoulders, our roads are in a mess and it's Victorians who are suffering due to Labor's financial incompetence.

"Under Labor, Victoria is broke and our roads are going backwards as a result. Life is getting harder under Labor.

"With the Treasurer also conducting a massive raid on funds from the Transport Accident Commission, spending on road safety will also be curtailed at a time when the road toll is increasing.

"As of budget day there were 124 deaths on Victorian roads in 2023, up a shocking 30 per cent on this time last year."

Mr O'Brien said Labor could bundle up all sorts of projects and spread funding across a decade, but can't hide the fact it is reducing spending on the roads we all rely on every day.
