Council is working closely with Transport for NSW to coordinate the reserve rehabilitation works, which form part of the Swansea Heads Southern Breakwater repair project.
The works are led by Transport for NSW Maritime and will see the Swansea Heads Southern Breakwater at Reids Reserve upgraded following storm damage in 2022.
Rehabilitation of the reserve is expected to take place toward the end of the project, which will likely be in late January to early February 2027. However, sections of the reserve will be progressively reopened for public use as rehabilitation works are completed. The contractor will aim to open up additional reserve area by the start of the Christmas holiday period.
The reserve rehabilitation is being funded through $126,000 in emergency recovery funding provided by the NSW Government.
Rehabilitation works will include filling scour holes, top dressing and returfing fenced-off areas, mulching, understorey tree planting, weed removal and reinstating three picnic tables.
To support the project works Reids Reserve Playground will be closed Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm for seven weeks from Monday 19 October 2026.
