Release of Victorian transport plan blocked by Labor and minor parties

Australian Greens

Victorians will continue to be kept in the dark about the Victorian Government's transport planning after a Greens amendment was bizarrely defeated by Labor and a number of crossbenchers - including the Transport Matters Party.

The amendment would have compelled the Government to table the transport plan they are required to have under the Transport Integration Act 2010.

As stated by Victorian Greens spokesperson for transport, Sam Hibbins MP:

"Now more than ever Victoria needs a transparent, long-term, integrated transport plan.

"As overcrowding and unreliability on public transport continues to grow and after the scathing VAGO report into the West Gate Tunnel, it's clear the Government has not developed the transport plan they are required to have by law.

"It was disappointing that so many of the crossbenchers decided to save the Government a few blushes rather than act in the long term interests of the Victorian people."
