Remains found in Wellington Park

Tasmania Police yesterday located human remains near Mt Charles in Wellington Park, Tasmania Police say.

Acting on the advice of a group of bushwalkers who discovered bones and camping gear during an expedition on Monday, police officers from Search and Rescue, Glenorchy CIB and Marine Services used four-wheel-drive vehicles to access the site and conduct an examination of the scene.

Documents were found near the remains that indicated they belonged to Dale Godfrey, who has been missing since March 2013. DNA analysis will be carried out to confirm the identification.

Mr Godfrey was last sighted while camping on Mt Wellington. Prior to going missing, he had spent most of his time living in the Huonville area.

Mr Godfrey’s family has been notified and there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
