Removal of Gilbert Gordon Grandstand for public safety

A recent inspection by Council's building surveyor identified the need to remove the old Gilbert Gordon Grandstand in Woodend. The grandstand no longer meets the current building requirements for public use.

Council's Director Assets and Operations, Shane Walden, said Gilbert Gordon Oval is the premier sports ground in Woodend and hosts a senior football netball club and cricket club.

"The health and safety of the community is important, and unfortunately, the grandstand is no longer fit for public use. The removal of the grandstand is in the interest of safety", Mr Walden said.

Weather permitting, the works will take approximately five days and will start in late March to early April. Restrictions to the oval's perimeter road will occur during demolition.
