Reopening of swimming centres postponed

"I would like to update all pool users that the reopening of our much loved local pools at Drummoyne and Cabarita has been delayed due to NSW public health orders," City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

"The safety of the community comes first. Although we have had to postpone our eagerly anticipated reopening, during the off season we have been able to complete an exciting program of works at both Drummoyne and Cabarita swimming centres."

Drummoyne Swimming Centre has received major treatment to the pool deck, grandstand, steel structures, roofs and pool shell, as well as an updated colour scheme to provide a more vibrant look and feel to the facility. It has taken the majority of the off season to grind back and level all floor surfaces, which were finished with a lighter, slip-resistant coating.

At Cabarita Swimming Centre extensive work was undertaken to achieve a concrete finish on the main deck, and a new colour scheme was applied to the toddler pool to brighten up the facility. The timber decking and walls were refreshed throughout and the main staircase was replaced.

Also, the plant equipment across both facilities has received upgrades and the interior of each pool was cleaned.

"I hope to see you all soon when our pools are open," Mayor Tsirekas said. "We have worked hard to improve these popular facilities and will be ready to reopen our doors when it is safe to do so."
