Report outlines reconciliation progression

Council's commitment to the reconciliation process is tracking in the right direction according to a report tabled at today's meeting.

The Council's Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) progress report (February 2021) indicated that over 66% of the required deliverable actions identified in the RAP were already meeting or surpassing the requirements.

The report noted that this was a particularly pleasing result considering the impact of COVID-19 on Council operations.

Only 8% of deliverables identified in the RAP had not yet commenced, but these are set to be prioritised by the RAP working group early this year.

Key activities supported by Council in 2020 were noted in today's report, including engagement with NAIDOC Week activities, provision of training and employment opportunities in the reconciliation journey, and re-establishing the First Peoples Advisory Committee.

The Cairns Regional Council's Innovate RAP was developed in consultation with Council's First Peoples Advisory Committee (FPAC) and endorsed by Reconciliation Australia in July 2019.
