City of Melton residents are making the most of the summer clean-up season, using Melton City Council's free hard waste collections and drop-offs to dispose of unwanted items the right way.
In January, more than 1700 residents used their waste entitlements, and Council completed around 100 hard waste collections per day.
Residents are encouraged to keep making the most of their waste entitlements, which expire at the end of each financial year. Each household receiving a Melton City Council kerbside bin service is entitled annually to:
- two Council hard waste collections (up to three cubic metres each), or
- two drop-offs at the Melton Recycling Facility (up to one cubic metre each), or
- a combination of one of each.
These entitlements are available to both renters and property owners.
The City's summer clean-up has also been boosted by the 2025/26 free green waste program, which ran at the Melton Recycling Facility from November to January. During this period, 1,322 loads of green waste were received, totalling 474 tonnes.
Residents also have year-round opportunities to dispose of items such as paint, batteries, engine oil and cardboard for free by dropping these off at the Melton Recycling Facility.
Good quality household items suitable for reuse—such as furniture, homewares, clothing, books and toys—can be donated to The Resale Shop, also located at the facility.
