Residents encouraged to take precautions ahead of king tides

Residents in low lying areas are encouraged to remain vigilant with higher than normal tides in the city this week.

The highest peak of 3.89m is expected tomorrow evening at around 8.07pm on Friday followed by a tide of 3.84m at 8.46pm on Saturday.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said while the tides were below 4m residents in areas impacted by king tides should take normal precautions.

"The general advice to people in low lying areas is to move property, particularly cars, away from areas subject to saltwater intrusion," Cr Greaney said.

Areas subject to tides include some parts of South Townsville and Railway Estate.

Motorists are asked to observe any warnings and road closures.
