Residents evacuated after garage fire in unit block, NSW

Fire investigators will examine a garage in a unit block at Rose Bay in an attempt to determine the cause of a fire, that saw residents evacuated yesterday afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 5pm on Saturday 21 April 2018) a man parked his Porsche in the ground floor garage of a unit block in Carlisle Street.

At 5.15pm the man’s wife returned to the building and parked her vehicle in the underground car park.

Shortly before 6.30pm Fire & Rescue NSW arrived after several witnesses reported seeing a large amount of smoke coming from the car park.

The building was evacuated by fire-fighters who had to cut a hole in the roller door to gain access.

It took an hour for the blaze to be extinguished with considerable damage occasioned to the buildings sewer pipes and smoke throughout the entire complex.

Three residents and a fire fighter were treated for smoke inhalation however no one was transported to hospital.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene at the location.

Further inquiries will be conducted by police and fire fighters today to determine the cause of the fire.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
