Residents reminded to be vigilant during festive season

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a spate of break and enters in the Albury area.

Officers from Murray River Police District are currently investigating a number of break and enters in the Albury, Lavington and Thurgoona areas in recent weeks.

Murray River Police District Acting Inspector Chris Wallace said the festive season is an opportunistic time for thieves.

"We are seeing a number of unattended homes being broken into as people are away holidaying or visiting family," Acting Inspector Wallace said.

"We are urging the community to be vigilant and report things as they happen.

"Please make sure that homes are locked and secure, that security systems, doors, windows, alarms and lights are properly installed and activated. Keep all valuables out of clear view and if you notice anything suspicious or out of place, contact police or Crime Stoppers."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Albury police on (02) 6023 9258 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police inquiries are continuing.
