Townsville City Council is inviting residents to get hands-on to improve the health of Mystic Sands' Borton Street Esplanade.
Saturday's Community Planting event will help stabilise the Borton Street Esplanade and maintain beach access.
Councillor Margie Ryder said Council was committed to keep the Clement Creek flows from eroding the Esplanade.
"Council held a community workshop last year to determine how to preserve the Esplanade and access to the beach," Cr Ryder said.
"Planting native grasses, vines and shrubs is just one way we can prevent erosion in the area. The coastal vegetation will help catch sand, which will help grow the Esplanade naturally over time."
Cr Ryder said it was great to know locals wanted to get their hands dirty to improve their backyard.
"Anyone who comes along to the Community Planting event will have fun while also helping out the environment," she said.
"Plus, there are free native plants to take home."
The Community Planting event will be held on Saturday, 28 September from 8.30am to 10am at Borton St, Mystic Sands.
The event will include a free sausage sizzle and free face painting.
Free plants are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
