Moira Shire Council is inviting community feedback on the Draft Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026-2029, which outlines how dogs and cats will be managed across the shire over the next four years.
The draft plan reviews current services to ensure Council continues to meet community needs and was developed following a community consultation process conducted between April and May this year, where over 100 residents (both pet owners and non-pet owners) provided feedback.
The plan also explores new initiatives such as low cost first registrations fees, multilingual information about pet registrations, support programs to reduce desexing costs and a "Lost Pets' page on Council's website.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the plan supported responsible pet ownership, keeping the community and wildlife safe.
"Pets bring so much joy to our lives, and this plan helps ensure the rules and services that support them are fair and effective" Dr Emonson said.
"This is your chance to help shape the future of animal management in Moira Shire."
The consultation to review the draft document is open until Monday 22 September. Visit the Moira Matters Website https://www.moiramatters.com.au/DAM-plan-consultation to read the draft and share your feedback.
