A police investigation in 1973 examined the circumstances surrounding the resignation of Kevin Lyons MP from the Bethune Liberal Government. , Tasmania Police say
The investigation found no evidence that the government of the day was terminated as a result of any criminal act, and no charges were laid.
These events are well documented and are understandably of historical interest.
While no new evidence has been provided to Tasmania Police, and most of the witnesses are now deceased, I acknowledge the public interest in this case and have requested a senior officer to review the investigation file.
A review of the file does not constitute a reopening of the investigation.
The review of the investigation file will determine whether any further action by police is appropriate.
