Road works aiming for minimal inconvenience

Road Works Update

Surf Coast Shire Council is getting underway with important upgrades to South Beach and Messmate roads, Torquay.

Work is being timed to minimise impact for the community, with both roads already closed for VicRoads construction of a roundabout at the intersection of South Beach Road and Surf Coast Highway.

Negri Contractors started works on South Beach Road on 23 August and completion is scheduled for mid-December.

Improvements will include a complete pavement rebuild, underground drainage, construction of sealed shoulders and a shared footpath on the south side of the road.

Local traffic movements will be maintained, ensuring minimal disruption to local access.

Council's civil team will also start works on Messmate Road soon.

The upgrade will include road reconstruction, drainage and sealing of 1.1km of currently unsealed road, and is scheduled for completion late October.

"These two projects will significantly improve road conditions and safety for residents and other road users in an increasingly busy part of Torquay," Cr Brian McKiterick said.

"We are particularly pleased to be able to coordinate the timing with the VicRoads work, enabling us to minimise inconvenience while maintaining local traffic access."
