Roadmap to gender equality

Jane Howlett,Minister for Women

The Tasmanian Liberal Government continues to demonstrate our strong commitment to gender equality - to equal participation of women across our society and equal opportunity to contribute to, and benefit from, all aspects of Tasmanian life.

Underpinned by our roadmap to achieving gender equality, the Tasmanian Women's Strategy 2018-21, our investment into women is working and creating real change for Tasmanians.

As at 30 June 2021, female representation on Government boards and committees was a historic 48.3 per cent, and we are on track to 50 per cent, well ahead of our target of 30 June 2022.

Our progress to date shows that as at 30 June 2021:

  • women held 456 out of 945 positions on Tasmanian Government boards and committees;
  • women held 34.5 per cent of chair positions (38 out of 110 positions) and 50 per cent of deputy chair positions (5 out of 10 positions); and
  • of the 945 positions on Government boards and committees, 47 women and 45 men held two or more appointments.

Since the introduction of the Women on Boards Strategy 2015-2020, representation of women on Tasmanian Government boards has significantly increased by 14.5 per cent to 48.3 per cent as at 30 June 2021.

We are investing more than ever in women's workforce participation with $3.95 million in the State Budget allocated to support programs that will create real change on the ground.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a proud champion of women, and supporting them to succeed. This Government has a plan, it is working and we look forward to continuing this critical work.
