Roads funding group to form

Council is now calling for nominations for community advocates to join Mitchell Shire's Community Roads Funding Reference Group to work on the identification and implementation of advocacy strategies to tell the story of the region's vast road network.

It is a big job looking after a vast road network like Mitchell Shire's and Council relies heavily on funding received from the State and Federal Governments to help with major roads projects.

Council is on the lookout for eight local community members who can help develop advocacy strategies and initiatives to attract greater amounts of funding to make improvements to the local road network as well as helping to shine a spotlight on some of the larger government road projects that the region is in desperate need of.

Mitchell Shire's community has extensive knowledge about roads, how they are used and what is needed in the future. Council wants to tap into this local knowledge and find eight experienced community members willing to join the first-ever Community Roads Funding Reference Group.

This group will be able to provide an additional channel for Council to support, provide feedback and advocate to increase available funding to both the Shire's road network as well as State and Federally controlled arterial networks.
