Robbery committed while impersonating police in Campsie

Detectives investigating the aggravated robbery of a supermarket at Campsie yesterday are appealing for public assistance, NSW Police say.

Just after 7.30pm (Thursday 13 December 2018), two men entered a supermarket on Beamish Street, and approached the counter, where a 32-year-old man was working.

The two men produced identification, claiming they were police officers before demanding money.

Following an argument, the employee was struck in the face during a physical altercation with the men before they removed his gold chain.

A member of the public entered the store and attempted to intervene before being ushered out.

The two men left and were last seen walking north on Beamish Street as witnesses flagged down police patrolling nearby.

The employee was treated by paramedics for a facial laceration before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

A crime scene was established and has been forensically examined.

Investigators from Campsie Police Area Command have commenced inquiries into the incident and are appealing for public assistance.

The first man is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, 30 to 40 years old, of a medium build, and with short dark hair.

He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, pants and thongs, a lanyard around his neck, and reading glasses tucked into the front of his shirt.

The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 30s, of a medium build, with blonde hair tied up in a bun.

He was last seen wearing a suit, white shirt, black tie with clip, brown shoes, and sunglasses.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to contact Campsie Detectives or Crime Stoppers.
