Robbery, wilful damage and assault police charges in , QLD

A man has been charged after allegedly robbing a service station and takeaway outlet before threatening police in Bundaberg overnight, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged around 12.50am a man drove into a service station on Bourbong Street and filled his car with fuel before entering the store.

The man collected a number of items before approaching the counter and allegedly making verbal threats towards a male employee.

The man then allegedly picked up a confectionary shelf, spilling its contents before throwing bottles of water and a flavoured milk at the staff member and making further threats.

The man allegedly fled the store and drove away without paying for any of the items.

A short time later the man returned to the service station in his car and walked to the front doors which had been locked by the staff member.

The man allegedly then pulled on a handle until it broke off and the doors became dislodged before again leaving the scene.

It will be further alleged around 1am the same man entered a takeaway store on Bourbong Street, ordered food from an employee and refused to pay.

The man then allegedly pushed a cash register off the counter and began making threats towards the staff member before damaging further property in the store.

It is then alleged the man took a piece of chicken from the store’s bain maree and began eating it when police arrived at the premises to speak with him.

The man allegedly confronted police, making further threats and threw the piece of chicken at an officer before being taken into custody.

A 52-year-old Avenell Heights man was charged with two counts each of robbery and wilful damage and one count each of assault police and obstruct police.

He was due to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court this morning.
