Rockhampton Regional Council will deliver more than $230,000 in small business crime prevention measures under the Crisafulli Government's Secure Communities Partnership Program.

The program is delivering safety where you live by preventing crime through an investment of $9.6 million in critical crime prevention measures for small and family businesses across Queensland.

Funding has been provided for 42 projects – including 35 in regional Queensland – to deter crime and improve safety throughout local small and family business precincts, including CCTV, bollards, lockable fencing and improved perimeter security.

In Rockhampton, the jointly funded projects will include CCTV systems and LED security lighting in two high-traffic car parks in the CBD to deter loitering, vandalism, and theft.

Round 2 will be launched before the end of the year and allow eligible small businesses to apply directly for funding to implement crime prevention measures.

The Crisafulli Government's three-year $40 million Secure Communities Partnership Program funds critical measures to deter crime before it happens, protects small and family business from economic loss, and forms part of the Crisafulli Government's Small and Family Business First Action Statement which is backed by over $100 million in new investment to improve the operating environment for business.

Small and Family Business Minister Steve Minnikin said the Government was restoring community safety by preventing crime before it happened through supporting Queensland's small business sector.

"Small businesses are the backbone of Queensland, and we're proud to support them and deliver a range of safety measures as part of our Small and Family Business First approach," Minister Minnikin said.

Member for Rockhampton Donna Kirkland said the Crisafulli Government would continue to back small business owners, and their staff, to fight the costs of crime.

"While victim numbers are starting to fall across Queensland, there is still plenty more work to be done, and we will continue to deliver a fresh start until we restore community safety across the State," Ms Kirkland said.

"Through the $40 million Secure Communities Partnership Program, we are working with councils, chambers of commerce and small businesses across Queensland to deliver practical, on the ground solutions that deter crime and create safer, more welcoming business areas."

Rockhampton Regional Council Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson said funding would deliver CCTV systems and LED security lighting in two high-traffic car parks in the CBD to deter loitering, vandalism, and theft.

"Crime impacts the bottom line for businesses and affects staff. These new cameras and lights will help us deter crime so businesses can focus on delivering great services to the community," Mr Wickerson said.

"We will continue to work with local businesses, police, community and the State Government to ensure our CBD and local areas are safe and secure places to visit and Rockhampton continues to be a great place to live and work."
