Despite repeated warnings, in less than four months since becoming Premier and Treasurer, Jeremy Rockliff and Michael Ferguson have sent Tasmania tumbling down the economic rankings.
The latest CommSec report shows Tasmania has slipped to third in the national economic rankings. We now no longer lead on any of the eight economic indicators, with our annual growth now worse than the national average. This comes on top of a damning report from Deloitte Access Economics, a population decline and two quarters of shrinking State Final Demand.
This economic downturn comes as no surprise, as Michael Ferguson wrecks the budget with record debt, Guy Barnett sits on his hands as power prices surge, and Jeremy Rockliff cuts the real wages of nurses, teachers and firefighters.
Now Tasmanians are left wondering how rapid the state's economic decline is going to be. While people grapple with the current cost of living crisis the economic headwinds continue to get worse under Jeremy Rockliff and Michael Ferguson's weak leadership.
The CommSec report further highlights how unfit the Rockliff-Ferguson Government is to be running the Tasmanian economy. They continue to get the basics wrong and refuse to act on the challenges Tasmania is facing.
