Rooftop man charged with trespass- Surry Hills, NSW

Police have charged a man with trespass following a rescue operation to retrieve him from a rooftop in Surry Hills overnight, NSW Police say.

About 11.45pm today, officers from Surry Hills Local Area Command were called to a home on Hills Street after residents heard noises and thought there was someone on their roof.

On arrival, police saw a 21-year-old man lying on top of a common brick wall separating the home from a hotel.

The man was unresponsive and – due to safety concerns – a rescue operation was initiated including officers from the Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and NSW Ambulance Paramedics.

The man was retrieved safely; however, after waking he allegedly became aggressive towards emergency services personnel.

He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital as a precaution before being taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with trespass.

The man was granted conditional bail, to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 24 November 2016.
