The Roxy Theatre has welcomed thousands of people through its doors in 2026, offering a vibrant mix of entertainment, education and community experiences for residents and visitors alike.
From locals enjoying a weekly movie to visitors travelling from across the region for live performances, more than 7,800 people have come through the Roxy's doors this year, generating over $120,000 in box office sales so far.
Deputy Mayor Cr Michael Kidd said the theatre's varied program was one of its greatest strengths.
"The Roxy offers something for everyone, from major touring productions and live music through to cinema screenings, school programs and community events," Cr Kidd said.
"It's pleasing to see people travelling from across the region and beyond to experience what the theatre has to offer, while local residents continue to embrace the Roxy as an important part of community life."
So far this year, the Roxy has hosted 42 movie screenings, 12 tours, 21 live shows, seven educational programs and numerous community activities, in addition to 23 locally hired events that have enabled community groups and organisations to make use of the historic venue.
The year's program has included performances ranging from tribute acts, comedy and live music to ballet workshops, youth activities, film festivals, school events and touring productions. Highlights have included performances by Ross Noble, Björn Again, Sport for Jove, Glenn Starr, community dance events, educational theatre programs and a growing cinema offering.
The theatre has also maintained a strong connection with local schools, welcoming 665 students and teachers through educational programs and performances throughout the year.
Roxy Theatre Manager Emma Di Muzio said the venue's appeal extended well beyond the local area.
"We're seeing people travel to Leeton from right across New South Wales and interstate, whether they're attending a performance, touring the theatre or participating in one of our many community events," Ms Di Muzio said.
"The diversity of the program is important. On any given month we might host a major touring artist, a school workshop, a community event, a guided tour and several cinema screenings. That variety helps ensure the Roxy remains active, accessible and relevant to a wide range of audiences."
Ticketing data shows patrons have travelled from 124 different postcodes across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the ACT to attend events at the Roxy, with visitors regularly coming from Narrandera, Griffith, Wagga Wagga, Yanco and Coleambally.
The year is far from over, with another 14 events scheduled before Christmas, alongside weekly cinema screenings and several major end-of-year dance concerts expected to attract significant audiences.
Cr George Weston said the theatre's continued success reflected the efforts of staff, volunteers, performers, hirers and patrons.
"The Roxy has long held a special place in our community, and it's wonderful to see it being used and enjoyed by so many people," he said.
"The Roxy does more than entertain," Cr Weston said. "Every time someone travels to Leeton for a show, a movie or a tour, there's an opportunity for them to visit our shops, enjoy a meal, stay overnight and experience our community. The theatre plays an important role in supporting our local economy while enriching the cultural life of our town."
