Devonport's oldest fun run has new organisers at the helm, who have plans to make the 2022 Run Devonport bigger and better.
Race directors Brian Lyons and Amie Bramich from Everyday Lions Events are no strangers to coordinating community events and have added Run Devonport to their list of races including The Great Train Race, Light Night Glow and the Devonport Christmas Fun Run.
Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff said Run Devonport was in good hands and Devonport City Council was proud to support the event, which will be held on Sunday, 20 March 2022.
"Run Devonport has always been popular on the sporting calendar, and we look forward to seeing where it's new race directors will take the annual event," Cr Rockliff said.
"It's all about participation and getting people involved who will reap the benefits of being part of something that keeps them physically active and engaged in the community."
Mr Lyons said it was an honour to take over the event, which he personally has enjoyed participating in for many years.
He congratulated former organiser Michael Bonney from Cradle Coast Sports and Events for making the annual event what it is today.
"We are so grateful to the Devonport City Council for supporting Run Devonport 2022, we have some big plans for this event and hope to create a real festival environment with pre and post-run entertainment," Mr Lyons said.
"There was a similar set up for the Light Glow Run in August and the feedback we received from this was that families in particular loved the festival feel, it really brought the community together."
Ms Bramich said the key factor that sets Run Devonport apart is that the event is for all abilities.
"Run Devonport has always been a family focussed event where everyone can have the opportunity to participate," Ms Bramich said.
"The event is non-competitive and affordable for the whole family and next year we will continue with the tradition of starting and finishing at the Bluff."
Run Devonport features 1km, 2.5km, 5km and 10km events for individuals and teams, with an earlier starting time of 8am planned for next year
Mr Lyons said organisers were looking for more sponsors to help lift the event to the next level.
"We welcome anyone wishing to be part of this event through participation or sponsorship to please get on board," Mr Lyons said.
"We've got such a great location here in Devonport, it's flat, accessible with views of the waterfront and Run Devonport has always had such a great community feel.
"There are plans to look at changing the route in 2023 and look at potentially moving the course down near the Waterfront Park precinct."
