Rydges South Bank to unveilsa giant Gingerbread House with the help of some very special kids

The festive season has most definitely arrived, and tomorrow Rydges South Bank will unveil a giant Gingerbread House which will take pride of place in the foyer until Christmas Day.

TOMORROW TUESDAY DECEMBER 3 from 10.30 am some very special kids from the Queensland Children's Hospital (all dressed in their own Chef hats and aprons) will help the chefs put the final decorating touches on the house, covering it with street treats, lollies and marshmallows – and will be invited to make their own mini Gingerbread treats.

The giant Gingerbread House has been created by the kitchen team at Rydges South Bank. Requiring plenty of preparation, the team have spent three weeks rolling, cutting and baking 300kg of gingerbread and 170kg of icing. The Gingerbread House takes the team two days to plan, design and scale from scratch, one day to build the wooden frame, half a day to paint, one day for seven chefs to bring the house to life with gingerbread, and a final half day for four chefs to put the finishing decorations in place.

The Gingerbread House initiative is in support of the Queensland Children's Hospital, with people being asked to drop their present donations in the lobby.

Rydges South Bank General Manager Callum Kennedy said the Christmas Gingerbread House will fill the hotel with the smells and sounds of Christmas – the aromas of the gingerbread, and the excited giggles of kids and adults. On display until Christmas, hotel guests, families and children are invited to take pictures. It's a life size Cubby house so the little ones will be able to go inside …..
