The NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) has charged a 17 year old youth with a terrorism related offence.
After being alerted to a number of social media posts, police arrested the youth at his home at The Oaks and taken to Camden Police Station where he was charged at midnight last night.
He’s been charged with one count of Acts in preparation for, or planning, a Terrorist Act, contrary to Section 101.6 of the Commonwealth Criminal Code. He was also charged with using a telecommunications network with intention to commit a serious offence, contrary to section 474.14 Criminal Code Cth.
The youth was bail refused and will appear at a Children’s Court today Wednesday, June 15th.
Police advise there is no threat to the community. The matter is unrelated to any previous investigation carried out by the NSW JCTT, NSW Police say.
