SA man arrested over border breach

A man has been arrested after he entered South Australia illegally overnight.

Police will allege that about 11pm on Wednesday 19 August, a 26-year-old Plympton man attempted to re-enter South Australia from Victoria at the Naracoorte border checkpoint, and was refused entry due to not having a valid permit or reason for entry.

He drove away from the checkpoint back into Victoria.

Today (Thursday 20 August) at 2.50am, a patrol saw the man driving a Nissan van without number plates on the South Eastern Freeway near Mount Barker, headed towards Adelaide.

The van was stopped, and checks revealed that the man had entered South Australia illegally.

He was charged with failing to comply with a direction under the Emergency Management Act and driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and was taken to the City Watch House to appear via videolink in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court today.
