SA Police Conduct Drills on North Terrace, No Alarm

This Sunday (March 29) South Australia Police, SA Ambulance Service, South Australia Metropolitan Fire Service and SA Health will conduct a deployment exercise on North Terrace and at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Security and Emergency Management Service Assistant Commissioner Philip Newitt said members of the public may see emergency services, role players with 'injuries' and lifelike mannequins with simulated injuries in the vicinity.

"Police will be deployed with operational equipment, but preventative measures are in place to ensure safety is paramount," Assistant Commissioner Newitt said.

"Exercises such as this give emergency services the invaluable opportunity to practice their skills and procedures in a safe, controlled environment."

Members of the public should not be alarmed; there is no risk to the community. However, to ensure the safety of potential bystanders, people are asked to avoid the exercise area.

There will be limited disruption to ticket holders to the Port Adelaide versus West Coast AFL match, but those attending the match should check local road closures and plan their journey. SAPOL thanks the public for their patience.

The exercise will begin at approximately 7:30am with North Terrace reopening at 1pm. The exercise will finish mid-afternoon. Police will utilise Adelaide High School as a staging area prior to the exercise.

Road Closures:

From 6am to 1pm:

- the footpath and roadway on the northern side of North Terrace between Adelaide Convention Centre Carpark traffic lights (east of the Morphett Street bridge) and west of Adelaide Intercontinental Hotel.

- Trams will continue at reduced speed with a safety corridor and likely a lesser schedule.

From 8am War Memorial Drive will be closed prior to the Port v West Coast AFL game.

The footbridge and walkway between the Casino and Intercontinental will remain accessible as will the Adelaide Convention Centre carpark.

Signage will be prominently positioned also with security presence for direction and advice to football ticket holders.
