Less than 10 minutes into Operation Safe Arrival, a man has been detected drink driving twice in two hours on Sydney’s North Shore, NSW Police say.
Just after 12am today (Friday 21 December 2018), police were called to Kirribilli Avenue, Kirribilli, after a car had been stopped by Australian Federal Police.
The driver, a 36-year-old man, was arrested and a subsequent breath analysis at Chatswood Police Station returned a reading of 0.159.
He was issued a Field Court Attendance notice for High Range PCA and his licence was suspended.
About 2.30am, it will be alleged the man returned to his car and police from North Shore Police Area Command were contacted. The man was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station where a subsequent breath analysis returned a reading of 0.117
He was charged with mid-range PCA and driving whilst suspended. The man was granted conditional bail and will appear in Manly Local Court on Thursday 24 January 2018.
NSW Police Force Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said all road users were warned yesterday about police being out in force for the Christmas and New Year period.
"Operation Safe Arrival was less than 10 minutes old and we have someone detected high range drink drinking for the first time and then again a couple of hours later," Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
"What do we have to say or do to get people to get the message through?
"You even think of doing something wrong and my officers will be there.
"Again this morning, I have reports on my desk about someone who clearly did not comprehend the risk he was taking.
"Let me make this clear – we are taking a zero-tolerance approach to driving behaviour on the roads this holiday season."
