Safe, legal fireworks to light up the skies this festive season

Watching an organised public fireworks display is the safe and responsible way to have a cracker festive season.

Natural Resources and Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham has reminded Queensland revellers to remain safe by sticking with legal fireworks displays.

"Queenslanders will have the opportunity to enjoy one of more than 150 professional fireworks displays over the holiday period. Nobody wants to see that fun ruined by serious injury or death resulting from illegally using fireworks.

"Don’t put a dampener on the festive spirit. Attending displays under the control of licensed fireworks contractors is a smarter, safer choice.’’

Dr Lynham said that while the displays are enjoyable for the family, many pets and animals are terrified by fireworks.

"Check the full list of upcoming fireworks displays, including dates, times and locations so you can be prepared at www.qld.gov.au/emergency/safety/explosives-fireworks/fireworks/

"If you know of anyone selling or using fireworks illegally, contact the Queensland Police Service or the explosives inspectorate."

Anyone caught illegally using or possessing fireworks could face fines of up to $47,120 or six months imprisonment.

Anyone who has illegal fireworks should surrender them to an explosives inspector by calling 1300 739 868 to arrange for them to be collected.
