SAFECOM Chief Executive takes new role in New South Wales

South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM) Chief Executive, Dominic Lane AFSM, has today announced his resignation to take up a new executive position in the New South Wales Government.

Mr Lane will lead the Operational Management and Partnerships Division of Resilience NSW.

The Resilience NSW department was established following the 2019/2020 bushfires to lead disaster management and recovery in NSW.

Since commencing with SAFECOM in June 2019, Mr Lane has been instrumental in leading the State Government agency to provide a range of support services across the Emergency Services Sector (ESS).

Mr Lane has overseen the Marshall Liberal Government's implementation of the Independent Review into South Australia's devastating 2019/20 bushfire season, the swift action of its recommendations with $97.5 million to future-proof the state against bushfires, and long overdue reforms to the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005.

Mr Lane has been instrumental in the development of the new $80 million purpose-built ESS headquarters at Keswick, which will permanently unite South Australia's emergency services leadership under one roof for the first time in state history.

Mr Lane – who will be closer to family after returning interstate – was the spearhead for the relaunch of the crucial Alert SA Mobile App which serves as a dependable information tool for South Australians during bushfires. It has been downloaded more than 250,000 times to date.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working for SAFECOM. I have been continually inspired by the dedication and commitment of the volunteers of the CFS and SES, and all of the paid staff of the Emergency Services Sector," Mr Lane said.

Emergency Services Minister Tarzia thanked Mr Lane for his service and wished him all the very best for his new position.

Arrangements are underway to appoint an interim SAFECOM Chief Executive while a national recruitment search will be launched to permanently fill the position.

Mr Lane's final day with SAFECOM will be on 7 May 2021.
