Sale Of Properties For Unpaid Rates

At Council's Ordinary Council Meeting on 4 November 2025, Hawkesbury City Council resolved to sell a number of properties for unpaid rates and charges, in accordance with sections 713 and 715 of the Local Government Act 1993.

Notice of the proposed sales was published in the NSW Government Gazette No. 116 on 27 March 2026.

The land identified in the Gazette Notice relates to properties where rates and charges have remained unpaid for more than five years. Despite previous attempts to recover these outstanding amounts, they remain unpaid as at 20 March 2026.

Unless payment is made in full, or satisfactory arrangements for payment are agreed with Council prior to the sale date, the listed properties will be offered for sale by public auction.

Under the Local Government Act 1993, properties may be sold where a rateable person or entity:

  • fails to pay the total amount of overdue rates and charges, including any additional charges that become due after the publication of the notice; or
  • does not make payment arrangements satisfactory to Council prior to the auction.

Council encourages any affected landowners, or persons or entities with an interest in the land, to contact Council as soon as possible to discuss their circumstances.
