Sale of Stirling Police Station, South Australia

As part of an ongoing Regional Review, South Australia Police (SAPOL) will be selling the Stirling Police Station that has not operated as a patrol base since 2006. The police station is planned to be released to the market for sale in early 2021.

The sale of this station will help to ensure that SAPOL are providing the best service to the community of South Australia by deploying resources to positions that will enhance police visibility, response capacity and service delivery.

All operational response and police station support will be provided by the Mount Barker Police Station which is the nearest main operational policing facility to Stirling Police Station. There are also traffic police which regularly patrol in and around Stirling and surrounding suburbs.

A review carried out by SAPOL found that staff members working at this location to provide administrative 'front counter services' were assisting with very few enquiries from the public.

Speaking on the future sale, Assistant Commissioner, State Operation Services, Ian Parrott has confirmed that there would be no reduction in police numbers as a result of the sale and that the public should feel assured that their requests for assistance will not be impacted by this decision.

"The main purpose of this station for the last 14 years has been to provide administrative front counter services. During this period, calls for police assistance/attendance from the public have been responded to by patrols based at Mount Barker, who regularly patrol the Stirling area and surrounds as part of their duties.

The sale of this asset will not change the way SAPOL services and responds to the community."

"I realise that some people see a closure of a bricks and mortar station as a reduction in service, but that could not be further from the truth. People, not buildings, are at the heart of a responsive policing service".

People are reminded to call Triple Zero in an emergency, or 131444 for non-urgent police assistance. There are also some online reporting options available on SAPOL's internet page, along with a range of useful information.

The sale of Stirling Police Station is expected to be finalised in mid-late 2021 and SAPOL is aware that there is community interest in the site.
