Women and girls using Council-managed sporting facilities across Bayside now have better access to appropriate amenities, with Council funding and maintaining sanitary bins in female changerooms, toilets and accessible toilets.
The practical change supports more inclusive community sport while easing the administrative and financial pressure on local clubs that use Council facilities.
By providing sanitary bins as a standard service, Council is helping create facilities that better meet the needs of all participants and support the continued growth of women's and girls' sport.
Club advocacy drives change
The initiative follows strong advocacy from tenant clubs calling for better access to sanitary facilities across Council sporting venues.
Brighton Soccer Club General Manager Nina Lyon said the commitment was welcome and important.
"This commitment not only supports the health and wellbeing of facility users, but also removes barriers to participation helping to foster greater inclusion, and encourage the continued growth of female participation in sport," she said.
Supporting fair access in sport
The rollout also supports Action 1.1 of the Bayside City Council Fair Access Action Plan 2024-2028, which commits Council to creating more welcoming and inclusive sporting environments.
