Saying thank you to Central Highlands

Will Hodgman,Premier

Today we celebrate community spirit and say thanks to all those who helped keep the Central Highlands safe over a very tough summer fire season.

Tasmania's firefighters, emergency services personnel, and many volunteers and community organisations have done an outstanding job in protecting people and property.

We also thank Mayor Lou Triffitt and the Central Highlands Council and staff for the excellent job they did in supporting their community and the firefighting effort.

We will continue to support anyone affected by the fires, especially those who lost property or were displaced from their homes during this extremely tough period.

A similar 'thank you' day will be held in the Derwent Valley on Saturday 27 April at Westerway from 12-3pm.

All events are family friendly and include free BBQs, children's activities, live music and entertainment suitable for all ages.

In planning these events the Government has prioritised local suppliers, and asked our providers to source their products locally to ensure money flows back into the communities and those small businesses that were impacted by the fires.
