School fire at Smithfield Plains, SA

Police and MFS Fire Investigation officers will be checking the remains of the disused Smithfield Plains Primary School after fire destroyed the abandoned buildings overnight, according to SA Police.

Just before 7.30pm on Sunday 18 December, police and fire crew were called to the school that was due for demolition in Buchanan Road, after local residents report smoke coming from the buildings.

The structures were well alight on MFS arrival and several crews were called in to battle the blaze.

The school which had been closed several years ago has been completely destroyed.

This morning police fire techs will be attending to determine the cause of the fire.

Buchanan Road remains closed to all traffic so please avoid the area if possible.
