Scrap WFH Bill, Revive Victoria's Economy

COSBOA

Australia's leading employer and business groups are calling on the Victorian Government to scrap the Work from Home Bill and focus on turning around the Victorian economy, creating jobs and lifting living standards.

Victoria has the highest unemployment rate in the nation and at a time when households and

businesses are under pressure, Victoria cannot afford policies that take the state further backwards.

The Victorian Government said it wants a genuine partnership with business, focused on restoring confidence and attracting investment and scrapping this Bill would demonstrate this commitment.

This Bill is a solution trying to find a problem that does not exist because flexible work is already widely available across Victorian workplaces.

Employers and employees already negotiate flexible arrangements that reflect the needs of

individuals, their roles and their workplaces.

This is significant legislation with far-reaching economic consequences, yet there has been

inadequate consultation and limited opportunity for proper public scrutiny.

Investment is vital to Victoria because it creates jobs and higher wages. When Victorians have secure jobs and confidence in the economy, that flows through to retailers, hospitality businesses and communities across the state.

The Government should be focused on attracting investment, creating jobs, strengthening household confidence and lifting living standards - not passing legislation that risks pushing investment and jobs out of Victoria.

We urge the Victorian Government to listen to employers, scrap the Work from Home Bill and work in partnership with business on the reforms needed to turn the Victorian economy around.
