Search and Rescue at Deception Bay, QLD

Two fishermen were rescued this morning after the boat they were travelling in sunk at Deception Bay, Queensland Police say.

Around 4.30am police were notified that the 3.9 metre dinghy had begun taking on water just off Beachmere Beach.

Water Police, Volunteer Marine Rescue, Coast Guard and an emergency helicopter were dispatched to the area in an attempt to locate the vessel off Beachmere Beach.

The men, aged 23 and 25 were located approximately one nautical mile offshore.

They were transported to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained as a result of jellyfish stings.

Sergeant Daniel Moyle from Brisbane Water Police stated: "It’s fortunate that these fishermen were wearing life jackets as this could have ended quite differently. Police would like to use this incident as an opportunity to warn boaties to check their vessels for seaworthiness, emergency supplies and age appropriate life jackets."
