Search and rescue, Ayr

A search and rescue is underway in Ayr for a 48-year-old man who went missing in Plantation Creek around 1.30am yesterday morning.

Selwyn Malayta and a second man were walking along Pool Street around 1am on September 14. They then tracked through a football field and the golf course and entered Plantation Creek between Kennedy Street and Edward Street.

One man returned to the creek bank and called to Selwyn but could not find him and did not see him exit the creek.

Selwyn is Aboriginal and is described as approximately 175cm tall, with a proportionate build and dreadlocks.

Police and SES (State Emergency Service) are on scene searching the banks of Plantation Creek in the vicinity of Kennedy Street.

Police have requested members of the public to not approach the search area as they may impact the police operation and the search.

If anyone in the community has seen Selwyn in the last 48 hours, they are asked to contact police immediately.
