Search and rescue operation at Kuranda

A search and rescue operation will resume shortly in Kuranda after a man riding his dirt bike failed to return home.

Andrew Nielson aged 50, (pictured below) is believed to have gone trial bike riding at the Flaggy Creek Trail via Quaid Road in Kuranda on Wednesday, February 3. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Police and family hold concerns for Andrew's welfare as it has now been two days since he has been seen.

Police with the assistance of the Rescue 510 helicopter and State Emergency Services volunteers commenced search operations yesterday (February 4) however were unable to locate him. Those resources will be joined by additional police on trail bikes and other agencies this morning.

Andrew is described as Caucasian, 175cm tall with brown hair and hazel eyes. It is believed he is wearing similar clothing pictured below.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Andrew or has any information to contact police.
