Search for man following Essendon collision

Police are searching for a male driver after a stolen car collided with two vehicles, including a police car, in Essendon this morning, Victoria Police say.

Police responded to reports of a man acting suspiciously along Salmon Avenue about 8.15am.

Police responded and when they approached the man’s car he drove off.

Members attempted to pull over the car which continued driving, turning onto Napier Street.

The driver attempted to do a u-turn by driving onto the footpath and was involved in a collision with the police car as it turned the corner onto Napier Street.

The stolen vehicle has then been involved in a collision with a civilian vehicle at the intersection of Napier and Woodlands streets before losing control and crashing into a tree.

He has abandoned the car and fled on foot.

A female occupant from the civilian vehicle was taken to hospital for observation. There were no other injuries reported.

Police have determined the crashed car was stolen.

A search is currently underway to locate the man in the nearby area.

He is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance and aged in his early 20s, with a medium build and was wearing a white or grey hoodie and dark pants.

Anyone who sees the man is urged to call Triple Zero (000).
